Caryl Kline, DVM
Veterinarian and Owner
Caryl Kline, DVM, graduated from Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. She completed her undergraduate work at Western Kentucky University and Morehead State University, where she also received her associate’s degree in veterinary technology. After graduating from veterinary school at Auburn University, Dr. Kline worked in West Virginia and Indiana before returning to Kentucky in 1987. She has been at Preston Animal Hospital since 1989. When not at Preston, Dr. Kline spends time with her family, camping, and trail riding.
Alex Pierce, DVM
Veterinarian
Alex has been on our staff since June 2012. She went to Morehead State University for undergraduate and met her husband, Robert, there. She graduated from Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine in April 2022. When not at Preston, Alex can be seen taking her dog (DiCaprio) and husband out on adventures or snuggling her two cats (Binx & Jack).
Michelle Smith, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Michelle Smith is a dedicated veterinarian passionate about soft tissue surgery. She earned her doctorate in veterinary medicine from Auburn University in 2020 and has been committed to providing the best care for our furry friends ever since. Originally from Hodgenville, KY, Dr. Smith’s love for animals and agriculture led her to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from Western Kentucky University. During this time, her fascination with veterinary medicine blossomed, guiding Dr. Smith toward a fulfilling career in the field. Beyond the clinic, she enjoys staying active and healthy. Dr. Smith often engages in CrossFit sessions to keep fit and energized. Exploring the great outdoors is another favorite pastime, allowing her to recharge and connect with nature. At home, Dr. Smith’s animal family plays a significant role in her life. She shares her space with Riva, my loyal canine companion, along with five adorable kittens and three horses.

Gretchen Karr
Practice Manager
On staff since March 1992, Gretchen is cross-trained in all aspects of veterinary assistance. She also helps with running the hospital. Gretchen is married with one son. She has two fur-babies at home; Zoey, a toy poodle, and BunBun, a Lionhead rabbit. Gretchen has always had a love for animals from a young age. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family.

Madison is in charge of our grooming services and focuses on providing exceptional grooming care that is entirely personalized. After all, a clean pet is a happy pet! She has been on our team here since February 2020.
Cierra
Cierra's Bio
Cierra Alexander
Cierra is one of our techs and has been on staff since September 2014. She is a graduate of Brown Mackie College with an Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology. She loves animals and has seven rescued fur babies of her own; Apollo, Astro, Jupiter, Mercury, Orion, Luna and Comet. She is married to a wonderful husband. She is a type one diabetic, but that doesn’t stop her from loving lift. She loves to spend time with family and her animals, have fun, travel and just live life.

Mark has been on our staff here at Preston Animal Hospital since June 2008. He is a crucial member of the team who assists in a variety of areas throughout the hospital.

Madison Fackler has been on staff since December 2021. She is currently a student at the University of Louisville studying biology on the pre-vet track. She has 2 fur babies, Hercules (cat) and Addie (dog).
Pam
Pam's Bio
Pam Brandenburg is a long time client of Preston Animal Hospital who recently retired from Baptist Health Louisville. Because of her absolute love of animals, she joined our team. When Pam is not working, she likes to read and spend time with Socks (cat) and Gidget (dog).

Erin Wick
Erin Wick has been thoroughly enjoying learning her first job in vet med as a vet assistant. She hopes to have a long career in this field. She has one spoiled cat, Chloe, and would happily own all the pets if not for the one pet rule where she lives.
She loves spending time with her family, The Office, true crime podcasts, Hamilton: The Musical, traveling, and reading from her own curated home library.
